Demand & Supply Are Out of Whack!

Demand and supply are out of whack to say the least. Manufacturers that supply toilet paper, food, healthcare products and other essential goods are seeing a surge in demand whereas those that don't are seeing demand plummet. China was under lock down previously (causing a delay in the pipeline), and they are now operating around 80-90%; however, now we are under lock down. Retail sales are non-existent, and so the warehouses are full of the wrong products. Thus, inventory and transportation assets are typically in the wrong place at the wrong time in the wrong quantity. Think Twice About Your Manufacturing Supply Chain

My recent episode from my new video series related to “What’s Happening?” in manufacturing and supply chain addresses reevaluating production outside of the U.S. There has been a lot of activity lately impacting sourcing decisions. Just consider the new phase 1 trade deal with China, offset by a very worrisome law that went into affect in China in December related to data privacy (and lack thereof!) and a BIG win for manufacturers with the new USMCA trade deal with Mexico and Canada. Are you staying up-to-speed on these essential changes and trends? Our most successful [...]

JIT Might Not Be What it is Cracked Up to Be?!

Just-in-time might not be what it is cracked up to be! Certainly, the coronavirus impacts should give us reason to question this rule at face value. Are you running so tight that you only have one bin, pallet or small supermarket to keep your facility running? If so, the question extends to your end-to-end supply chain. Let's assume you are a critical manufacturer struggling to produce key items during this coronavirus pandemic. Your suppliers should not be on lockdown since they support a critical infrastructure business; however, that doesn't mean you'll be fine. There are many considerations to review: Source [...]

Coronavirus Spurs Supply Chain into Prominence

March 11, 2020 The House of Representatives has launched a new Congressional Supply Chain Caucus. The coronavirus is spurring supply chain into the limelight. Certainly, as China is impacted, the effects to the supply chain will be felt throughout the world in 2-3 months (and sooner for countries closer to the source). We are already starting to see these effects. In addition, it is creating a panic and so virus related supplies are already scarce. If nothing else, it is definitely highlighting the impact of the supply chain. On a related note, listen to [...]
