Outstanding Consultant Honored at Highly Successful Virtual Annual Meeting
NEW YORK, NY—The Society for the Advancement of Consulting® (SAC), a leading global association of independent consulting professionals, today announced the winner of the Corrie Shanahan Memorial Award for Advancing Consulting. The award, was announced at the 17th annual meeting of the organization, held virtually this year with an extended agenda and broader participation.
Gene Moran, the recipient of this year’s award, is the founder and president of Capitol Integration. With over 30 years of federal and corporate experience, he brings comprehensive and assertive advocacy and strategic support to help clients achieve business objectives. At Capitol Integration, Gene has successfully established and increased funding of formal acquisition programs, protected funding of existing programs, and achieved favorable budget, policy, legislative, and contract outcomes for clients.
The award is given to an independent consultant who has done the most to advance the profession in the previous year. It is named in memory of Corrie Shanahan, a SAC member who passed away in 2019. Corrie Shanahan was an expert in rapidly strengthening organizational performance, productivity, and corporate culture, and the author of Do it, Mean it, Be it. The Keys to Achieve Success, Happiness and Everything You Deserve at Work and in Life.
“Corrie was an active, generous member of this community, who exemplified the qualities we were looking to recognize in a consultant,” according to Linda Popky, co-executive director of SAC. “We are pleased to be able to recognize her professionalism, dedication and unfailing optimism in spite of the health challenges she faced. It’s fitting that her spirit lives on with this award.”
A committee of SAC members, led by chair Pamela Harper, reviewed submissions and evaluated applicants based on a set of pre-defined criteria.
“We want to congratulate Gene on winning this award,” said Lisa Anderson, co-executive director of SAC. “Our award committee worked throughout the year to encourage applications and review candidates. We are lucky to have so many talented and qualified consultants in the SAC community. It’s hard to choose just one to honor.
“It is humbling to have been nominated, let alone awarded this prestigious recognition,” said Gene Moran. “SAC’s membership includes the best consultants in the world and I have benefited tremendously knowing and learning from many of them. That SAC peers saw in my work reason to nominate me is incredibly gratifying. That my clients contributed so candidly in support of the nomination process is equally fulfilling.
“I will do all in my power to share in the ongoing learning that underpins the consulting profession,” he continued. “By learning together, we can continue to collaborate with and lead our clients to their best outcomes.”
Virtual Meeting Format Features Global Format
Because of the ongoing pandemic, this year’s annual meeting was held virtually. Sessions started early in the day at a time that is appropriate for European/EMEA members, continued throughout the day for North America, then continued late into the day in the US for those in the Pacific Rim.
The theme for this year’s meeting is Thriving Through Ambiguity. All sessions are being recorded, so participants will be able to view any session they’d like at their convenience.
“We were of course quite disappointed we couldn’t be in New York this week, as we have every Fall,” said Linda Popky, SAC Executive Director. “But we realized we had an opportunity to create a high-value event that would include both speakers and attendees that might not have been able to travel to an in-person meeting.
“Our attendance is more than three times what we’ve experienced in the past,” she said. “Luckily, the Web allows us to accommodate anyone who is interested and still give each attendee a front row seat.”
Recordings of the meeting sessions will be available to both members and on-members for a fee.
