The collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore will force shipping companies to divert their freight to nearby ports in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Virginia. Some trucks will also be forced to reroute to the western side of Baltimore, because many can’t use the city’s tunnels due to hazmat and dimension limitations.

According to supply chain expert Lisa Anderson, the president of LMA Consulting Group, Inc., these challenges will have a “slight impact” on the U.S. economy—and cause inflation to tick upwards.
